Anthropic Ships Claude Opus 4.7 โ The Coding Model That Handles Your Hardest Work
Anthropic just released Claude Opus 4.7. Generally available today.
Direct upgrade to Opus 4.6. Same price. Significantly more capable.
$5 per million input tokens. $25 per million output tokens. Available across all Claude products, API, Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud Vertex AI, and Microsoft Foundry.
What Got Better
Coding is the headline improvement.
Users report handing off their hardest coding work โ the kind that previously needed close supervision โ to Opus 4.7 with confidence.
Handles complex long-running tasks with rigor and consistency. Pays precise attention to instructions. Devises ways to verify its own outputs before reporting back.
Instruction following got a significant upgrade too. Opus 4.7 takes instructions literally now. If you have prompts built for earlier models, re-tune them โ the model will follow them exactly as written rather than interpreting loosely.

One Thing To Watch
Migrating from Opus 4.6 means planning for higher token usage.
Updated tokenizer maps the same input to roughly 1.0 to 1.35 times more tokens depending on content. Opus 4.7 also thinks more at higher effort levels, producing more output tokens.
Net effect is favorable on coding evaluations. But measure it on your real traffic before assuming costs stay flat.
Why This Matters
Capability and safety usually move in opposite directions.
More powerful model. More risk. That's been the pattern.
Opus 4.7 breaks it. Stronger coding. Higher resolution vision. Better instruction following. And cybersecurity guardrails deliberately built in and tested before anyone gets access.
