Two weeks ago the CEOs asked the world to slow down.

Yesterday, standing in front of the United Nations, the President answered for the United States.

No.

Trump used his UN address to reject international efforts to control AI.

He called global oversight a "globalist scheme."

And he urged the country to press ahead, all the way to superintelligence, to keep its lead over China.

That's the most direct rejection of the pacing idea any head of state has given.

And here's the part that makes it final.

Xi Jinping lands in Washington tonight for a two-day summit.

AI is at the top of the agenda for the first time in US-China history.

And every preview of that meeting says the same thing.

Neither side has any intention of slowing down.

While Silicon Valley debates whether AI could wipe out humanity...

Washington and Beijing are worried about one thing.

Who wins.

So step back and look at where the whole slowdown story landed.

The CEOs asked for a pause.

The engineers signed letters and walked out.

The public told pollsters it's terrified.

Both political wings held a stage together to demand curbs.

And the two governments with actual power over the frontier just said, in unison...

The race is on.

Here's what that means for YOU, and I'll be blunt.

Regulatory relief is not coming from the top.

Nobody's going to slow the frontier down for you.

The models will keep getting more capable on the same brutal schedule.

The compute war will get more intense, not less, because it's now national policy on both sides of the Pacific.

And the responsibility for using them safely stays exactly where it's been all summer.

Not the labs. Not the government. Not a treaty.

The operators who run their own scopes, their own oversight, and their own sandboxes...

Blu Dot surpasses 2,000% ROAS with self-serve CTV ads

Home furniture brand Blu Dot blew up on CTV with help from Roku Ads Manager. Here’s how:

After a test campaign reached 211,000 households and achieved 1,010% ROAS, the brand went all in to promote its annual sales event. It removed age and income constraints to expand reach and shifted budget to custom audiences and retargeting, where intent was strongest.

The results speak for themselves. As Blu Dot increased their investment by 10x, ROAS jumped to 2,308% and more page-view conversions surpassed 50,000.

“For CTV campaigns, Roku has been a top performer,” said Claire Folkestad, Paid Media Strategist, Blu Dot. “Comping to our other platforms, we have seen really strong ROAS… and highly efficient CPMs, lower than any other CTV partner we've worked with.”

Using Roku Ads Manager, the campaign moved from a pilot to a permanent performance engine for the brand.

The talks run Thursday and Friday.

Here's what's actually on the table, so you can grade the outcome when I break it down Friday.

First, the incident hotline.

Treasury Secretary Bessent confirmed the US proposed a direct notification line for AI incidents that reach a national security level.

Both sides agreed to open an AI dialogue before the summit even started.

If that hotline gets formalised, it's the first real piece of AI infrastructure the two powers have ever built together.

Second, the chips.

Export controls on advanced Nvidia hardware remain the biggest sticking point.

China wants access. Washington wants to keep its lead.

Every price you pay for compute is downstream of how this one resolves.

Third, distillation.

The US accuses Chinese labs of training their models on the outputs of American ones, Claude included.

We covered that when Anthropic first raised it.

Now it's a diplomatic grievance on a presidential agenda.

Fourth, the money.

Beijing reportedly plans to spend $300 billion on data centres.

Remember the $156 billion in American projects delayed or cancelled last year.

One side is building. The other is arguing about zoning.

So here's the honest expectation.

Nobody in that room is going to agree to slow down.

But they might agree on how to talk when something goes wrong.

Given what agents did this summer, a phone line between the two biggest AI powers might be the most important boring outcome of the year.
