Codex can now operate your Mac while the screen is off
How much access would you give an AI on your Mac?

Hi ,
OpenAI just gave Codex the ability to use desktop apps on your Mac.
From your phone. Even when your Mac is locked and the screen is off.
Click through UIs. Test apps. Reproduce bugs. Change settings. All while you're somewhere else entirely.
Computer Use is live now for Codex on macOS.
Today's prompt builds a podcast research brief that makes every guest conversation feel deeply informed. Win Wednesday features three community members shipping real results with AI this week. Then the full breakdown on what OpenAI just launched for Codex.
π₯ Prompt of the Day π₯
Podcast Pre-Interview Briefing: Use ChatGPT or Claude
Create one guest research preparation system.
"Act as a podcast production specialist. Create one pre-interview research brief for [PODCAST HOST] that makes every guest conversation feel deeply informed.
Essential Details:
Guest Name: [WHO YOU'RE INTERVIEWING] Guest Expertise: [THEIR SPECIALITY] Episode Angle: [YOUR PLANNED FOCUS] Audience Level: [LISTENER SOPHISTICATION] Episode Length: [TARGET DURATION] Promotion Goal: [WHAT GUEST SHOULD SHARE]
Create one briefing template including:
Guest background summary Three unique conversation angles Five questions that go beyond surface Potential controversial or bold takes Audience takeaway goals Closing question that creates a memorable moment Prepared hosts create better episodes."
Variables:
PODCAST HOST: Who is hosting the interview
WHO YOU'RE INTERVIEWING: The guest
THEIR SPECIALITY: What they're known for
YOUR PLANNED FOCUS: The angle you want to explore
LISTENER SOPHISTICATION: How deep your audience goes
TARGET DURATION: How long the episode runs
Why This Works:
Unprepared hosts ask the same questions every guest has heard a hundred times. AI builds the research brief that goes deeper β unique angles, questions that surprise the guest, bold takes worth exploring, and a closing question that creates a moment people remember. The best podcast episodes start with the best preparation. AI handles the research so you focus on the conversation.

Three Wins That Prove AI Removes the Barriers That Used to Stop You
Strong week in the community. Three members shipping things that would have been blocked by cost, skills, or time just a year ago.
Ann Kristine PeΓ±aredondo β Quiz Lead Magnet Built Without Code
Ann built a fully functional quiz lead magnet in HTML using ChatGPT.
She had wanted to create one for a long time but kept getting stopped by the tools and the code required. Her words: "this girl doesn't do codes, unfortunately."
A few iterations with ChatGPT and the quiz was done. Working. Ready to deploy.
The barrier was never the idea. It was the technical skill gap between the idea and the finished product. AI closed that gap in one sitting.
If you have been putting off a project because you assumed it required a developer β test that assumption this week.
Glo Ochoa β 600% Engagement Increase in Seven Days
Glo's client did a full rebrand and implemented an AI-built posting strategy simultaneously.
Within seven days β before the rebrand was even finished β engagement increased over 600%.
Glo's honest take: "I don't know why I am amazed at how fast things go. It's always a slow start."
That's the reality of AI-powered strategy. The ramp-up feels slow. Then results appear faster than anyone expected. The strategy was solid. The client executed. Both things had to be true.
600% in a week. That's a number worth paying attention to.
Suzanna Kennedy β Brand Style Guide From a Single Prompt
Suzanna used one of the prompts shared inside the community to create her brand style guide.
One prompt. One output. A complete brand style guide ready to share with writers, designers, and AI tools.
Most businesses spend weeks going back and forth with brand consultants to produce exactly this document. Suzanna did it in one session.
The prompts shared inside this community are not just educational. They are production tools. Use them that way.
Three different wins. Three different barriers removed. All in one week.
What did you ship this week?
Did You Know?
AI systems monitoring social media can now detect the early stages of a product-safety crisis β identifying unusual clusters of complaints about a specific symptom or failure β days before formal customer reports reach the manufacturer through official channels.

OpenAI Launches Computer Use for Codex β Control Your Mac From Your Phone
OpenAI just gave Codex the ability to see and operate desktop apps on your Mac.
Computer Use is live now on macOS. Control apps from your phone. Even when your Mac is locked and the screen is off.
Grant Screen Recording and Accessibility permissions. Install the Computer Use plugin. Codex can now click, type, navigate, and interact with any graphical interface you allow.
What It Does
Codex can now operate apps that don't have command-line tools or structured integrations.
Test a macOS app or iOS simulator flow that Codex is building. Reproduce a bug that only shows up in a graphical interface. Change app settings that require clicking through a UI. Inspect information in apps or data sources that have no plugin available.
Mention @Computer or @AppName in your prompt. Describe the exact flow. Codex handles it visually.
Locked Use β Work While Your Mac Sleeps
This is the feature that changes the workflow.
Enable locked computer use in Codex settings. Start a task from your phone. Codex temporarily unlocks your Mac, completes the computer use task, then relocks it.
Safeguards built in. The unlock window is short-lived and scoped to the current task only. Codex covers every display while the desktop is temporarily unlocked. If it detects local keyboard or pointer input it relocks the Mac immediately and pauses automatic unlock until you do it manually.
Your Mac stays protected. Codex gets the access it needs to finish the job.
How Permissions Work
macOS system permissions and Codex app approvals are separate layers.
System permissions let Codex see and operate apps. App approvals determine which specific apps you allow Codex to use.
During a task Codex asks permission before using each app. Choose Always Allow for apps you trust it to use automatically in future tasks. Remove apps from the list anytime in settings.
Codex also asks for explicit permission before taking sensitive or disruptive actions. File edits and shell commands still follow existing sandbox and approval settings.
What It Cannot Do
Cannot automate terminal apps or Codex itself β that would bypass security policies.
Cannot authenticate as an administrator or approve security and privacy permission prompts on your computer.
Cannot operate without your explicit permission for each new app it touches.
The Browser Warning Worth Reading
If Codex uses your browser it can interact with pages where you are already signed in.
Web pages can contain malicious or misleading content. Sites may treat approved clicks, form submissions, and signed-in actions as coming from your account.
Review website actions as if you were taking them yourself. To keep using your browser while Codex works, ask it to use a different browser.
Why This Matters
Most AI coding tools operate inside the terminal or the text editor.
Codex now operates in the graphical world β the same interfaces humans use daily. Testing apps, reproducing visual bugs, clicking through settings, inspecting data in tools that have no API.
That is a fundamentally different capability than writing and reviewing code.
For developers β visual testing and bug reproduction handled by Codex while you focus on something else. Even from your phone.
For teams β tasks that required someone physically at the machine can now run remotely through Codex.
For the AI coding market β computer use moves Codex from code assistant to something closer to a virtual teammate that can operate your entire development environment.
What This Means
Codex users on macOS get computer use today. Install the plugin. Grant permissions. Start handing off visual tasks.
The locked use feature is the real game changer. Kick off a task from your phone while your Mac is closed in your bag. Come back to finished work.
AI just got hands. And it knows how to use them.
Over to You...
Codex went from writing code to operating your entire Mac. Did you see that coming?
Tell me what you think.
To tools that keep surprising,
