Cursor, Claude Code and Codex are now one stack

What if AI coding tools stopped competing?

Hi ,

The AI coding tool market was supposed to pick one winner.

Instead three competitors became one stack nobody planned.

In the first week of April 2026 Cursor shipped a rebuilt agent orchestration interface. OpenAI published an official plugin that runs inside Claude Code. Early adopters started running all three together.

Not as competitors. As layers.

Claude Code is the most loved AI coding tool among developers at 46%. Estimated annualized revenue over $2.5 billion. Codex surpassed 3 million weekly active users. Up from 2 million just one month earlier.

Today's prompt wakes up your dormant email list or cleans it for good. While Tool Tuesday covers Google's new budget video model. Then how Cursor, Claude Code, and Codex quietly became one stack nobody planned.

πŸ”₯ Prompt of the Day πŸ”₯

Dormant Email List Re-engagement Campaign: Use ChatGPT or Claude

Create one win-back-or-clean sequence.

"Act as an email deliverability specialist. Create one re-engagement campaign for [DORMANT SUBSCRIBERS] that wakes them up or cleans the list.

Essential Details:

  • Dormant Definition: [MONTHS INACTIVE]

  • List Size: [INACTIVE COUNT]

  • Original Opt-In: [WHY THEY JOINED]

  • Brand Changes: [WHAT'S NEW]

  • Incentive Budget: [WIN-BACK OFFER]

  • Deliverability Risk: [SENDER REPUTATION]

Create one re-engagement sequence including:

  • 'We miss you' opener email

  • Value reminder follow-up

  • Feedback request email

  • Final warning notice

  • Permission pass protocol

  • List cleaning automation

Protect deliverability, recover engaged readers."

Variables:

DORMANT SUBSCRIBERS: Who you're trying to win back

MONTHS INACTIVE: How long they've been silent

INACTIVE COUNT: How many subscribers you're targeting

WHY THEY JOINED: What originally attracted them

WIN-BACK OFFER: What you'll use to bring them back

SENDER REPUTATION: How healthy your deliverability is right now

Why This Works:

A dead list destroys deliverability. Sending to unengaged subscribers tanks your sender score. AI builds the sequence that wins back the readers worth keeping and removes the ones who aren't. Clean list. Better open rates. Lower spam risk. Every email performs better after.

Google Launches Veo 3.1 Lite β€” Most Cost-Effective AI Video Model Yet

Most developers want AI video generation but can't justify the cost at scale.

Google just fixed that.

Veo 3.1 Lite is live. Less than 50% of the cost of Veo 3.1 Fast. Same speed.

Available now via paid tier on the Gemini API and Google AI Studio.

What It Does

Text-to-video and image-to-video generation.

Landscape and portrait formats. 16:9 and 9:16 aspect ratios.

720p and 1080p resolution options.

Custom duration at 4, 6, or 8 seconds. Cost adjusts based on length.

The Pricing Story

Veo 3.1 Lite costs less than half of Veo 3.1 Fast.

Veo 3.1 Fast also getting a price cut from April 7.

The entire Veo 3.1 model family just got more affordable.

What The Model Family Looks Like Now

Veo 3.1 Lite β€” highest volume, lowest cost, same speed as Fast.

Veo 3.1 Fast β€” mid-tier, now cheaper than before.

Developers pick based on volume and quality requirements.

Why This Matters

AI video generation has been expensive to build at scale.

Veo 3.1 Lite removes that barrier for developers building high-volume video applications.

For developers: Build video features that were previously too expensive to justify.

For businesses: AI-generated video content at a fraction of yesterday's cost.

For the market: Google is making video generation a commodity layer. Not a premium feature.

What This Means

If you build apps with video, Veo 3.1 Lite opens use cases that were cost-prohibitive before.

If you create content at scale, image-to-video at under half the previous price changes your production economics.

If you watch Google's AI strategy, Veo 3.1 Lite plus Gemma 4 plus price cuts across the board signal one thing. Google is competing on accessibility not just capability.

AI video just got a lot more affordable to build with.

Cursor, Claude Code, and Codex Are Building One Stack Nobody Planned

The AI coding tool war was supposed to produce one winner.

Instead it produced a stack.

In one week in April 2026 three competitors shipped integrations that made them composable. Not competing. Layering.

What Happened

Cursor launched version 3 codenamed Glass. Replaced its Composer pane with a dedicated Agents Window β€” a full control plane for managing multiple AI agents simultaneously across local machines, worktrees, and cloud sandboxes.

New features include Agent Tabs for side-by-side conversations, a /best-of-n command that sends the same prompt to multiple models in isolated worktrees for comparison, and Design Mode for annotating UI elements directly in a built-in browser.

Three days earlier OpenAI published codex-plugin-cc on GitHub. An official plugin that installs directly inside Claude Code β€” Anthropic's terminal-based coding agent. A direct competitor shipping inside another direct competitor's product.

What The Codex Plugin Does Inside Claude Code

Six slash commands available once installed.

/codex:review runs a standard code review.

/codex:adversarial-review pressure-tests auth, data loss, and race conditions.

/codex:rescue hands a task to Codex entirely as a subagent.

Review gate feature lets Codex automatically check Claude's output before it finalizes. Blocks completion if issues are found.

The Three Layers Forming

Orchestration β€” Cursor 3 manages agent fleets, controls which models run which tasks, and replaces the text editor as the center of gravity.

Execution β€” Claude Code and Codex write, review, and debug. Claude performs better on complex long-context reasoning. Codex handles parallelizable throughput tasks more efficiently.

Review β€” Cross-provider verification. When Claude writes and Codex reviews, the reviewer has no shared assumptions with the writer. Independent scrutiny. Different error classes caught.

The Numbers

Claude Code holds a 46% most loved rating among 906 developers surveyed. Estimated $2.5 billion annualized revenue. Roughly 4% of all public GitHub commits as of March 2026.

Codex hit 3 million weekly active users. Up from 2 million just one month earlier.

Why OpenAI Built Inside Anthropic's Product

The conventional playbook says build a walled garden. Make switching costly.

OpenAI did the opposite.

Claude Code has a large enthusiastic developer base. Rather than waiting for them to switch OpenAI embedded Codex where they already work. Every plugin review generates usage billed to the developer's OpenAI account. Zero acquisition cost.

Anthropic's open plugin architecture made it possible. Both sides benefit. Anthropic gets a richer ecosystem. OpenAI gets distribution inside a competitor's installed base.

Why This Matters

AI coding tools are not converging into one product. They are splitting into specialized layers that compose.

For developers, model choice is becoming infrastructure. Pick Claude for precision. Codex for throughput. Cursor for orchestration.

For the industry, the text editor is losing its place as the center of software development. The orchestration layer is taking over.

For businesses using AI coding tools, you don't have to pick one. The stack is designed for composition.

The Bottom Line

Developers on Claude Code get a free independent reviewer the moment they install the Codex plugin. Different model. Different assumptions. Different errors caught.

Cursor users get a control plane that treats the text editor as secondary. That is a 40-year assumption being flipped.

For everyone watching this market, the signal is clear. Composability beat consolidation. Nobody planned it that way. It happened anyway.

Over to You...

OpenAI inside Claude Code. Nobody asked for it. Everyone benefits. Wild week in AI.
