Meta just changed how people find information on Facebook.
New feature called AI Mode. Rolling out now. Replaces the traditional search results experience with synthesized AI answers pulled from public posts, Groups, and Reels across the platform.
Ask a question in plain language. Get an answer based on what people are actually discussing. No scrolling required.
What AI Mode Does
Instead of returning a list of posts to scroll through, AI Mode synthesizes information from across Facebook's public content and delivers a direct answer.
The AI draws from public Groups discussions, Reels, and posts to surface what the community is actually saying about a topic.
Users can ask questions naturally β the same way they would ask a friend β and get answers grounded in real platform conversations.
What Else Shipped Alongside It
Video editing tools with collage cutouts and transition effects for montages.
AI-powered photo presets letting users change clothes, hairstyles, and accessories virtually. Sports fans can try on team jerseys directly from Stories or their profile picture.
These join a growing list of recent Facebook AI releases β animated profile pictures in February, AI replies for Marketplace sellers in March, and an AI creator assistant earlier this month offering posting time suggestions and comment summaries.
The Reliability Question
AI Mode synthesizes content from everyday users rather than vetted sources.
That raises a real concern β outdated information, misleading posts, and community misinformation could all surface in AI-generated answers. The same concern has been raised about Google's AI Mode pulling from Reddit discussions.
Meta has not yet detailed how it plans to surface authoritative information versus community speculation in AI Mode answers.
