The Bots Must Say Hi Now

A new era quietly switched on this month...

If your AI talks to customers in Europe, it now has to identify itself.

No more passing the bot off as a human.

Here's what went live on August 2 under the EU AI Act:

🤖 Companies must TELL people when they're interacting with an AI instead of a human

🏷️ Generative AI output must carry machine-readable markers... So synthetic text and images can be identified as such

📢 Deepfakes and AI-written content on matters of public interest must be disclosed

And the enforcement teeth switched on the same day...

Regulators can demand information, request model access, and order recalls.

Now the honest read, because this matters...

If you're US-only with zero EU customers, nothing legally changed for you this week.

But don't get comfortable...

The postponed heavy stuff — rules for AI in hiring, credit, infrastructure — lands December 2027.

And regulation travels. What Brussels writes, other regulators photocopy.

Here's how I'm thinking about it for anyone running AI personas, agents, or content...

Disclosure isn't the threat people think it is.

I run AI personas openly... Beau writes under his own name, as an AI, and people LOVE him for it.

Transparency didn't hurt the engagement...

It became part of the brand.

The people who should be nervous are the ones whose whole model depends on you NOT knowing it's a bot. 😏

So get ahead of it...

Label your agents. Disclose your personas. Make "yes, this is AI, and it's great" part of your positioning.

The rules are coming everywhere eventually...

The early adopters of honesty get it for free. 🫡
